Satirical cartoon, The New and Elegant St Giles's Cage. erected on purpose for the Dillitanti Theatrical Society. A satire on the Pic Nic Society, a group of amateur actors organised by Colonel Greville. Lady Buckinghamshire and Greville in theatrical dress sit in the stocks. Lady Buckinghamshire asks her black pageboy Sambo for a glass of lemonade. Sheridan opposed the Society for infringing the monopoly of the patent theatres, and as players from an unlicensed theatre they were threatened with vagrancy proceedings
