Satirical cartoon, The Taylor Sheering the Geese or the Protestants in the Wrong Box. William Taylor, manager of the Opera at the King's Theatre, Haymarket, depicted here as an actual tailor, brandishes shears and a yardstick, and chases five ladies out of a theatre. He snips at the backs of their dresses, revealing their buttocks. There had been a call for more operas to be performed in English (hence the reference to Protestants) rather than Italian. Taylor was a controversial figure who eventually became bankrupt
