Satirical cartoon, The Wapping Concert. A satire on the German singer, Madame Mara (Gertrud Elizabeth Mara, nee Schmeling), a concert singer, who sang at the Handel Commemoration in Westminster Abbey in 1784 and 1785. She had rickets in her childhood, hence Le Genou Inflexible, or (Stiff Knee), and never completely recovered, often needing to sit during performances, thereby incurring the displeasure of the audience. The cartoon is a mock advertisement: Madam Mary informs her Friends and the Public in General, that she has opened her Winter Concert at the Hog in Armour, Wapping, in a large Commodious room belonging to the Free Masons
