Tipu Sultan and General Cornwallis

Satirical cartoon, How to Gain a compleat Victory and say you got safe out of the enemy's reach. Depicting an imaginary scene during the Third Anglo-Mysore War (1789-1792), involving a chase between Tippu Sultan of Mysore riding a horse and Lord Cornwallis, Governor General of India, on an elephant. Tippu Sultan opposed British rule and in 1789 invaded the British-protected state of Travancore. In the ensuing years 1790-1792 he was defeated by Cornwallis, and had to cede half his kingdom. After recommencing hostilities in 1799 he was killed at the siege of Seringapatam
