Geological Map of England and Wales (1820) 1st edition
First edition of the Geological Society's Geological Map of England and Wales under the authorship of its first President, George Bellas Greenough. All copies of the first edition have an engraved publication date of November 1819, but the map was not issued until May 1820. Copies continued to be produced and sold until the map was superseded by the second edition (issued in 1840). This copy is no. 84 and was originally intended for Dr Wollaston but it was considered imperfect and instead retained. Watercolour on engraved base
