Railway line near Haputale, Sri Lanka

Photo of the railway line between Colombo and Badulla being built near the town of Haputale, Sri Lanka, by WLH Skeen and Co. This is part of the Sri Lanka Main Line, the first stretch of which was opened in 1864 - the first railway line in operation in the country. By the time this photo was taken, the line was in use between Colombo and Nanu-Oya. The section to Badulla was not opened until 1924. Black and white photographic lantern slide
