Blatter fur junge Kaufleute No. 5
Cover of Blatter fur junge Kaufleute ('Pages for Young Merchants'), Vol. 36, No. 5, published in Berlin on 24 May 1939. Issued by the German Labour Front (Deutsche Arbeitsfront or DAF), the magazine served as a professional training and educational journal for young commercial employees, apprentices and sales personnel. The subtitle, 'Fachliches Schulungsblatt der Deutschen Arbeitsfront' ('Professional Training Journal of the German Labour Front'), reflects its dual purpose of vocational instruction and ideological formation. The cover features a photograph of a traditional German town square dominated by a fountain and civic buildings, presenting an image of order, community and municipal life. Rather than emphasising military themes, the publication sought to connect commercial training with broader National Socialist concepts of social responsibility, economic organisation and membership of the Volksgemeinschaft (people's community).
Titles such as Blatter fur junge Kaufleute formed part of the extensive network of specialist occupational periodicals produced under the auspices of the German Labour Front. Combining practical business education with political and cultural instruction, they were intended to shape a new generation of German workers and professionals in accordance with National Socialist social and economic ideals. Today such vocational publications are considerably scarcer than more widely collected party, military or youth magazines and provide valuable insight into everyday professional life in Germany on the eve of the Second World War
