Der Sturmer - special edition

Der Sturmer, Special Issue, January 1938. Rare special edition of Julius Streicher's notorious antisemitic weekly devoted entirely to the subject of alleged Rassenschande ('racial defilement'), one of the central themes of Nazi racial propaganda. Published from Nuremberg, Der Sturmer was among the Third Reich's most extreme propaganda publications, specialising in virulent antisemitism and sensationalist campaigns against Germany's Jewish population. This special issue, headlined 'Todesstrafe fur Rassenschander' ('Death Penalty for Racial Defilers'), argues for capital punishment for relationships prohibited under the Nuremberg Laws and presents photographs, police portraits and denunciatory articles intended to stigmatise both Jewish men and their non-Jewish partners. The cover features one such alleged couple, while interior pages reproduce police mugshots and propaganda articles portraying Jews as a racial threat. Produced only months before the November 1938 anti-Jewish pogroms (Kristallnacht), the issue illustrates the increasingly radical public campaign of dehumanisation and persecution that preceded the Holocaust.
