Die Rote Fahne (The Red Flag), Reich edition, No. 6, 1939. Extremely rare clandestine issue of the banned newspaper of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD), produced during the final months of underground communist resistance to the Nazi regime. Following the suppression of the KPD after Hitler's seizure of power in 1933, Die Rote Fahne continued to appear illegally, first from secret presses within Germany and later from exile, with copies printed abroad and smuggled back into the Reich through clandestine courier networks. This issue carries the headline 'Hitler treibt zum neuen Weltkrieg!' ('Hitler drives towards a new world war!'), warning that Germany was being led towards another European conflict while calling upon workers to resist Nazi militarism. Published shortly before the outbreak of the Second World War, it is among the last surviving underground editions of Die Rote Fahne, representing the final phase of organised communist opposition before wartime conditions and the Molotov-Ribbentrop Pact effectively ended publication later in 1939. A rare and historically important example of anti-Nazi resistance literature produced under conditions of illegality
