Der Rundblick, No 35-36, 4th September 1942

Der Rundblick (The Round View), 4th September 1942, 12 Jahrgang (12th Year of publication). Der Rundblick was a weekly illustrated Family Newspaper. Launched in 1931 as Neue Jugend (New Youth), which by 1933 and the establishement of Adolf Hitler as Chancellor and Nazi rule, focused entirely on the activities of the NSDAP, Adolf Hitler, National Socialist movements, and approved novels, everyday life, sports, films, culture, puzzles etc. It also include a supplement called, Neuer Funkbote which served as a radio magazine. On the 25th July 1937, Neuer Jugend changed its name to Der Rundlick, though for a while the magazine displayed both names before becoming just Der Rundblick from the 1st October 1937 onwards. Once Germany was at war, the magazine, now with the added reassuring subhead, Das Illustrierte Familienblatt (The Illustrated Family Newspaper) written boldly across the cover, the editorial took on a war footing, concentrating more and more on war coverage and the war effort. The cover picture shows a watchtower on the Atlantic Coast. The accompanying text reads Air patrol on the Atlantic coast - The North Sea and Atlantic coasts were fortified and developed into a protective wall by German troops. Our soldiers stand guard here day and night. The picture shows one of the watchtowers from which air traffic control posts monitor the airspace. Der Rundblick was one of numerous weekly publications at that time which covered topical events, art, film, fashion, celebrity and lifestyle with a strong National Socialist slant
