Cover of Der Sachsische Bauer (The Saxon Farmer), No. 26, published in Dresden on 1 July 1934, during the first full year of National Socialist rule in Germany. Issued by the Landesbauernschaft Sachsen (Saxon Regional Farmers� Association) under the authority of the Reichsnahrstand (Reich Food Estate), the weekly magazine served as an official publication for farmers and rural communities throughout Saxony. The cover photograph, captioned Beginn der Roggenernte ('Beginning of the Rye Harvest'), depicts a woman harvesting grain in a rural field, emphasising the importance of agricultural labour and the seasonal rhythms of farming life.
The title was part of the extensive publishing network established by the Reich Food Estate following its creation in 1933 under the leadership of Richard Walther Darr�. Combining agricultural guidance, rural news, political messaging and organisational information, publications such as Der Sachsische Bauer promoted the National Socialist ideal of Blut und Boden ('Blood and Soil'), linking German identity to the land, farming and rural tradition. The masthead prominently incorporates Reich Food Estate symbolism and identifies the magazine as the official journal of the Saxon farming organisation. The issue includes reports on agricultural administration, crop production, harvest planning and regional farming affairs, alongside political commentary and notices relating to the rural organisations of the period. Associated supplements such as Die Bauerin (for women), Sachsische Landjugend (for rural youth) and Wald und Holz (forestry and woodland management) demonstrate the publication�s role in addressing different sectors of rural society. As an early example of National Socialist agricultural publishing, the magazine provides an important record of the reorganisation of German rural life in the 1930s and the effort to integrate farming communities into the ideological and administrative structures of the regime
