Der Tag (The Day) - newspaper 14 March 1933

Front page of Der Tag (The Day), a Berlin daily newspaper published on 14 March 1933. Founded as a conservative-nationalist newspaper associated with the German National People's Party (DNVP) and the Hugenberg press empire, Der Tag occupied a complex position during the early months of Nazi rule. Although supportive of nationalist politics and initially sympathetic to Adolf Hitler's coalition government, the newspaper would cease publication in 1934 as the Nazi regime consolidated control over the German press and eliminated independent conservative voices. The front page is devoted to what it describes as the 'Victory of the National Revolution' (Der Sieg der nationalen Revolution), celebrating the political transformation following the Reichstag election of 5 March 1933. Prominent articles report the official adoption of the swastika alongside the traditional black-white-red imperial colours as Germany's national flags, publish statements by President Paul von Hindenburg and Chancellor Adolf Hitler, and announce the creation of the new Reich Ministry of Public Enlightenment and Propaganda under Joseph Goebbels. Additional reports discuss administrative changes within the new government and present the Nazi seizure of power as a national rebirth following the perceived failures of the Weimar Republic. As an example of the German press during the transition from parliamentary democracy to dictatorship, the issue documents the rapid institutionalisation of National Socialist rule and the creation of propaganda structures that would dominate German public life throughout the Third Reich
