Flammenzeichen - Volkisch newspaper
Flammenzeichen ('Flame Sign'), rare volkisch weekly newspaper published in Stuttgart, August 1937. Front page features the headline Offenbarungen des Marcus Eli Ravage ('Revelations of Marcus Eli Ravage') accompanied by a large antisemitic caricature based upon writings attributed to the Jewish-American journalist Marcus Eli Ravage. Interior articles include attacks on the Vatican, Catholic bishops and organised religion alongside antisemitic commentary and nationalist political opinion. The cover bears a contemporary NSDAP Kreisleitung Reutlingen ownership stamp, linking the copy directly to a local National Socialist Party office. A scarce example of a regional volkisch propaganda publication from Wurttemberg demonstrating the convergence of antisemitic, anti-Catholic and nationalist themes in the German radical right press before the Second World War.
