Flammenzeichen - Volkisch newspaper

Flammenzeichen ('Flame Sign'), rare volkisch weekly newspaper published in Stuttgart, April 1936. The front page features the headline Korruption 'im Namen Gottes'... ('Corruption 'in the Name of God') together with a political cartoon directed against France, depicting Cardinal Richelieu, Napoleon and Georges Clemenceau as monumental figures while former French Prime Minister Pierre-�tienne Flandin appears diminished below them. Published shortly after the remilitarisation of the Rhineland, the image reflects National Socialist propaganda portraying the decline of French influence and the resurgence of a united Germany. Interior articles combine antisemitic commentary, attacks on organised religion, social criticism and nationalist political analysis. A scarce example of a regional volkisch weekly illustrating the overlap of anti-Catholic, antisemitic and nationalist themes within the German radical-right press of the mid-1930s.
