Illustrirte Zeitung Leipzig. - No 5007, 6th August 1942 - The cover illustration is a reference to the then ongoing series of battles along the Don River in southern Russia which played a key part in the intense struggle between German and Soviet forces for Stalingrad and the Eastern Front. Inside are features celebrating the quick advance of Army Group south towards Stalingrad, and on an exhibition in Paris by the sculpture, Arno Breker. The caption for the cover illustration reads - In Victorious Advance. Illustrirte Zeitung Leipzig began in 1843 and was the first weekly publication in Germany and became famous for its stunning use of illustration and photography. It maintained this during the Nazis period though with a more modernist and stylised aesthetic. It covered topical events, art, film, fashion, celebrity and lifestyle. It started in 1843 and took on a pro NS stance from 1933 onwards until its closure in September 1944
