Special issue of Berliner Illustrirte Zeitung (BIZ) commemorating 21 March 1933, the day of the ceremonial opening of the newly elected Reichstag, presented under the title Der 21. Marz 1933 - Die Staatsfeierlichkeiten bei der Reichstagseroffnung ('The State Ceremonies at the Opening of the Reichstag'). The cover features a night-time view of crowds assembled before the illuminated Brandenburg Gate in Berlin during the celebrations that became known as the Day of Potsdam.' Published shortly after Adolf Hitler�s appointment as Chancellor on 30 January 1933, the issue documents one of the most important symbolic events of the early National Socialist period. The ceremonies at Potsdam were carefully staged to associate the new government with the traditions of Imperial Germany, culminating in the widely publicised meeting between President Paul von Hindenburg and Chancellor Adolf Hitler at the Garrison Church.
