SS issue NS-Frauenwarte, June 1937

NS-Frauenwarte (National Socialist - Female Guardian), June 1937 No 27, Jahrgang 1936-37 (As the first issue was published in July 1932, a year was from July to June). This issues strives to show what the SS stands for, its culture and beliefs with many of the articles written by officers in the SS. The cover shows the SS officer belt buckle. The issue also included a full, page-sized print portrait of an idealised Aryan women by the favoured SS painter Wilhelm Petersen. The NS-Frauenwarte was the NSDAP's leading and prestigious bi-weekly illustrated magazine for women, though from July 1942, its publication was reduced to every three weeks, and by 1944, monthly with severely reduced pages due to wartime shortages. Launched in July 1932 it was published until Spring 1945. It blended lifestyle content with propaganda to promote the roles of mother, homemaker, and cultural life in line with Nazi doctrine. It featured household tips, patterns, poems, cooking recipes, holidays, parenting, schooling advice, and ideological articles on racial policy, education, and wartime motherhood and training as nurses helping the war effort as women's roles evolved alongside it. NS-Frauenwarte often featured highly decorative and artist cover illustrations or dramatic use of photography that made it one of the most striking publications of the Third Reich period. Founded in October 1931 as a merger of several right-wing women's groups, the NS?Frauenschaft became the official women's micro-organization of the NSDAP after 1933. Under Reich Women's Leader Gertrud Scholtz?Klink (from February 1934), it oversaw the Deutsches Frauenwerk (DFW) and extended Nazi ideology into women's daily lives through structured local chapters (Gau, Kreis, Ortsgruppe, etc.). By 1938, its membership numbered around two million-roughly 40% of party affiliates. Its activities ranged from homemaking and childcare classes to political indoctrination via mandatory Frauenschaftsabend meetings and practical support in wartime efforts
