Volksgemeinschaft - Wehrgemeinschaft
Volksgemeinschaft - Wehrgemeinschaft (People's Community - Military Community), a large-format illustrated brochure published in Berlin in 1938 to accompany an exhibition of the same name. The publication focuses on the militarisation of German youth, particularly within the Hitler Youth movement, and includes artworks - paintings and drawings - produced by young participants depicting themes of discipline, duty and future military service. The striking cover illustration shows a Hitler Youth drummer boy leading a formation of marching youths beneath an idealised steel-helmeted soldier's head, visually linking childhood to future service in the Wehrmacht. The accompanying slogan, What are we? Pimpfe! What do we want to become? Soldiers!, encapsulates the explicit ideological aim of preparing youth for military integration within the National Socialist concept of the Volksgemeinschaft
