Die Kommunistin - German Communist women's newspaper, Berlin, 1 June 1923. Front cover of issue no. 11 (year 5) of Die Kommunistin, the official women's publication of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD), produced by the party's Women's National Secretariat and associated with the Communist International. The paper was founded with the involvement of socialist feminist leader Clara Zetkin, a central figure in the German and international communist women's movement. The cover illustration depicts obese capitalist figures blocking access to baskets of bread while starving workers and mothers with children stand behind them. A worker raising a hammer symbolises revolutionary resistance. The caption reads Der Bauch des Kapitals versperrt uns den Weg zum Brot ('The belly of capital blocks our path to bread'), reflecting communist propaganda during the economic crisis and hyperinflation of the Weimar Republic in 1923
